History of the United Methodist Deacon: 1968-1995

Beginning with the creation of the United Methodist Church in 1968, the groundwork for what became the permanent Order of Deacon was laid. Many conversations and publications explored the Biblical, theological, and ecclesiological bases of the diaconate. Most of the items on this page date from this time period and are helpful for framing the discussions and decisions that were made which paved the way to 1996.
