Requesting Items: How to Request

This guide details how you can submit curbside pickup, scan, and ILL requests through USearch.

Requesting Items for Pickup, Scan, or ILL

Once you have logged in to your account, you will have some options to place pickup/mail, scan, or ILL requests. Request options in the online library catalog are limited to Northwestern library items. If you are an online/distance student, please contact us so that we can confirm that you live more than 50 miles from the seminary and within the United States. Then, you will be able to place mail and scan requests using USearch. For more information, see this guide.

Alternatively, to submit curbside pickup requests for Styberg Library items, click on the curbside pickup link at the bottom of this page or the forms linked on the Other Request Options tab. The boxes below detail how to submit these requests.

Curbside Pickup & Mail Requests

The request option will appear in the Get It section of an item record. It is simply called "Request".

If there is more than one volume, you will need to open up the record further to see the request options by clicking on the call number (e.g., 205 R3823).

The request option will then appear to the right of the items.

Once you have located and selected the Request link, the  request form will appear. Select Styberg Library from the Pickup/Delivery Location drown-down menu.

For curbside pickup requests, please put "Curbside Pickup" in the Notes field.

For mail requests, please put your mailing address in the Notes field. (Mailing is only available for seminary students and faculty who live more than 50 miles from the seminary.)

Press the Send Request button when you have completed these steps.

You will receive an email from the library when your item is ready to be picked up or has been mailed. The email will provide additional details about when and how to pick up your requested item(s) if applicable. Please note, we mail all books using Library Mail.

Scan Requests

To place scan requests, you must use the forms on the Styberg Library's website.

If you are a distance or online student, or are uncomfortable or unable to enter the library, please use this scan request form. This includes those who are unable to visit the library during our regular hours.

ILL Requests

If an item is checked out, you still have the option to request an interlibrary loan copy. This option is only available for books that are not on reserve.

All available items will display green text below the title and author information. If the text is gray, it likely means that the item is checked out.

You can also see the availability of an item by opening the item's record and checking its Status. If you notice that the item is "On Loan" or otherwise unavailable, the ILL Request link should appear in the Get It section. Click on this link to be taken to the ILL Request form.

Fill out the ILL Book Request form as completely as possible. You will receive a confirmation email and an email when your item is ready for pickup. Please note, we cannot mail ILL items; they must be picked up.

Additional Request Options

If you are unable to submit your pickup, mail, or scan requests in USearch, you may also submit these requests using the forms on our website. Either way you choose, we will be happy to fill your request(s). Let us know if you have any questions or concerns about these options.
