This guide is meant to serve as a helpful resource as you navigate and complete your exegesis assignments. The guide contains helpful resources and tools for this exegetical work. The most commonly used resources as well as some other promising ones are included. It has been developed in consultation with Bible faculty and their syllabi, so it also includes many required/recommended resources.
The guide is organized by the type of materials (e.g., Bibles, commentaries, dictionaries, etc.), and within each page are general as well as more specific resources for the Hebrew Scriptures and New Testament.
What is exegesis? According to Encyclopaedia Britannica, "Exegesis, the critical interpretation of the biblical text to discover its intended meaning. Both Jews and Christians have used various exegetical methods throughout their history, and doctrinal and polemical intentions have often influenced interpretive results; a given text may yield a number of very different interpretations according to the exegetical presuppositions and techniques applied to it. The study of these methodological principles themselves constitutes the field of hermeneutics."
This guide is meant to help you start your research and exegetical work, but it is not the only place that you can begin. USearch, the library's online discovery tool (AKA catalog) is also a good place to research. In addition to the default basic search, you may want to try an advanced search. Group together terms like Bible, commentary, dictionary, concordance, etc. to find relevant resources.
